Value chain example: Importance of communication in the value chain framework and for value chain analysis


The value chain framework is a model which helps to analyze certain activities through which companies are able to create value as well as a competitive advantage.

A value chain is a series of actions and steps that take place in the production of a product or service. At each step value is added to the product or service.

A good example is bakery where activities include production and manufacturing, purchasing, procurement, staff management and human resources, marketing and selling, distribution.  Each of these steps add value making the end product more valuable and profitable.

If you are able to understand a value chain example then you have grasped the concept of the the value chain analysis. It entails the analysis of the process.

Consider an employee who is working as at the top of human resources. This individual is a very important part of the value chain. Due to the factor that human resources is part of a much larger system. The part that this person plays impacts the entire company and is linked to everything as well as making it function.



A misunderstanding or miscommunication could affect the end result in varying degrees.

 

Behavior change workplace communication campaigns as well as awareness campaigns and good teamwork in the work place may be necessary for problem areas in the value chain. These can be used to increase efficiencies and productivity, motivation and morale.

 

The value chain is a concept from business management, which was first brought to the world’s attention in the form of a best seller in 1985 in a book entitled: Competitive Advantage: Creating and Sustaining Superior Performance, which was written by Michael Porter.
