Reasons why I Should Recycle

Interesting recycling facts for the workplace

Among the main reasons why I should recycle are:

There is a significant gap in the amount of recycling that goes on in the workplace. Recycling at home is more common than ever before, but sometimes this is not followed through at work because recycle bins are often not in place.

Reasons why I should recycle at work
When you consider the fact that people spend almost a third of their time at work and the vast volumes of recyclable waste generated in a work environment, setting up a recycling program at the office would make a huge impact on the environment. In addition, passing on recycling knowledge to employees can improve the rate at which they recycle at home, which will be passed on to future generations as well.

The first thing to remember is that most offices are constantly using paper for a number of different projects, but much of this paper ends up being thrown away. One of the reasons why I should recycle in the workplace is that the quantity of paper that is being used everyday in mind blowing. While it is not advisable to recycle things like company documents, any paper that is simply being thrown into the garbage can be recycled. This includes paper that has been written on or printed on, as recycling depots are able to turn this into useable paper once again. By simply getting all employees to recycle the paper that they do not end up keeping, you can definitely reduce your office's carbon footprint and ensure that the world is a good place to live for future generations. Encourage employees to print on both sides of the page which halves the amount of paper being used.

Socially responsible workplaces

The best way to ensure that this paper is recycled is to put a recycling bin in the office. The reason why people do not recycle is because it can sometimes take a great deal of time. Most employees have a waste bin at their desks, but do not have a recycling bin. By taking the waste bins away from the employees' desks, you can force them to get up every time they need to throw something out. Then, if you have a recycling bin next to the garbage bin, they will be able to recycling the paper instead of throwing it out. When it comes down to a simple choice like this, most employees will think of the reasons why I should recycle in the workplace and will do the right thing.

There are plenty of things around the office that give reasons why I should recycle in the workplace, as things like cardboard and even ink cartridges can be recycled. Recycling these ink cartridges will also save the office money, since it is cheaper to refill these cartridges than it is to buy new ones. Make up poster as your would do for energy saving posters to promote electricity saving.

Some companies run recycle projects for kids of employees.  This is effective in getting the kids to motivate the parents.  Awards are given to children who complete the recycling course or winners of ‘recycle art projects’ or the most creative ‘recycle christmas cards’ project.

By obtaining the children’s commitment it puts pressure on the parents to comply with recycling behavior.

A ‘recycle print cartridge’ campaign was run where the employee who collected the most cartridges was acknowledged in the staff newsletter.  Information in the newsletter included interesting recycling facts and promoted large recycle symbols. It also had recycle numbers to contact for recycle bins for the home and how to get a new bin if a person had lost their recycle bin. It had interesting facts about recycling paper, recycle prices and water vapor greenhouse gas.

Some companies encourage employees to recycle alkaline batteries by having a collection point for old batteries.

Finally, the best reasons why I should recycle in the workplace are because it will help me develop the habits that I need to ensure that my children also recycle. Developing these habits in the children of today will help make the world a much better place in the future.
