Newspaper Layout Templates and How to Make a Newsletter
Before choosing from the many newspaper layout templates available, define what you want your employee newsletter to do. Clearly define the purpose of the newsletter and the target audience. Is it a summary of the projects currently activities? Is it a way to make employees feel "connected" and that they are important to the business?
Will it provide some lightheartedness in what may be a very serious workplace? Unless you have a clear plan for the n
ewsletter that will achieve these goals and appeal to your specific target audience the pulbication will not succeed and will not add to the morale of the workplace.
When choosing a newspaper layout template, first, determine whether you expect the newsletter to be read on computers or in paper copy form. If you're not sure, consider publishing it as a PDF file for distribution via email and perhaps having a handful of paper copies available in the break room or some other common area for those who are not inclined to read from their computers or who do not have computers.
Prints can also be made for employees to take home, if required. Also consider how often you want the newsletter
to be published. The more frequent the publication, the shorter it should be as a great deal of work and time goes into produducing a high quality newsletter. Remember that magazines usually have 6 week deadlines, and that is with whole teams working on them. That gives you an indication of the amount of work involved in producing a publication.
The principles for a newspaper are similiar to producing a newsletter.
Important notes when using newspaper layout templates include:
- Provide plenty of white space and break up blocks of text with graphics or subheadings at least every 500 words as this increases readability.
- Make sure that each page has at least one graphic element.
- Don't go crazy with fonts. Pick two or three fonts and stick with them.
- Proofread and edit the newsletter carefully, preferably get the help of at least one other person. A fresh set of eyes will help ensure there are no mistakes.
