A brochure is part of a business branding strategy. Therefore, a brochure needs to be planned and designed thoroughly to convey the right message. A good brochure should not only be informative, but should also assist with getting new potential clients.

A well-designed brochure need not be expensive to print. When designing a brochure, consider the print area as this will determine the size of the brochure.
Brochures are printed and cut in sheets, and to be safe, it is recommended to have extra areas of 1/8th inch on each edges of the brochure.
Use high-resolution images on brochures. Images should be a minimum of 300 dpi (dots-per-inch) for maximum sharpness. A brochure with high-resolution images looks attractive and professional.
Do not use more than 3 types of fonts on a brochure design. Avoid using common fonts such as Helvetica and Arial. Make sure that you don't use fonts that are not easy to read. The key is to keep it clean and simple and professional looking.
Before printing, selecting the right paper is very important. The paper thickness, measured in gsm will vary according to the purpose of the publication eg a folder would be printed in a 300 or 350 gsm paper and a letterhead on an 80 or 90 gsm paper. You also have the choice of a matte or gloss finish.
Be creative and think outside the box. A brochure can be designed in out-of-the-norm shapes and sizes. It can be die-cut into an unusual shape. The aim is to make it look appealing so that it breaks though the clutter and is noticed.
