For workplace ideas, you can buy a standard cork bulletin board, with or without a dry erase section. However, it's much more fun to use your own creativity.
I chose some of the dark brown cork tiles that you can find in your store's stationery section. (If they aren't there, look in the home shelving section.) I bought several packages so that I could have a bulletin board at work and also make one for my daughter's bedroom.
For the workplace bulletin board, I bought lengths of plain polyester cord. The craft store also had artificial sinew, which looks like leather strips, but the cords were less expensive.
I crisscrossed them diagonally from one corner of the cork to the other, like the strips on top of a piecrust. At each place where the strips crossed, I inserted a brass-tone upholstery tack. For my office I had an attractive yet utilitarian bulletin board where I could pin messages or insert them into the strips of cord.
For my daughter's board, I bought lace ribbons that matched the trim in her bedroom. At the places where the strips of lace crossed, I inserted pearl-headed push pins. The overall effect was feminine and coordinated with the look of her bedroom. She put photos of her friends into the lace strips. She also inserts notes about assignments-she's learning self organizational skills that will help her when she has her own office.
