Cognitive behavior modification definition: Behavior modification is a form of therapy that treats anxiety and neuroses. The person being treated is taught to recognize destructive, harmful thought patterns or behaviors, and to replace them positive, productive thoughts and behaviors.

The workplace can be a very stressful place, and for this reason it is sometime necessary for employees to undergo cognitive behavior modification.

Okay yes, that sounds a bit extreme for the workplace, but using this approach can prevent things such as employee violence, stress, or even panic attacks. When you work in a very stressful environment, there are many things that you will need to do, and you must be in a particular state of mind.

For one thing, you need to be able to manage your emotions. What if you work at a call center? There is definitely a lot of stress, and you need to be able to handle it before you can truly jump in. The last thing you want to do is snap at a manager, or worse, have a panic attack at your desk.

For the most part, most companies do not offer cognitive behavior modification programmers in the workplace, you would usually have to consult a therapist. These types of treatments are quite often used for autistic children, or children suffering from ADD.

They are used for adults with ADD and autism as well. If you have a condition that is keeping you from doing your job, then you need to do something about it as soon as possible. Some therapists even use behavior modification hypnosis.

 

The idea behind this type of therapy or modification is to unlearn the patters you have applied to certain situations. You will learn a new way of doing things, and you will respond properly to certain situations.

It won't be easy, and it could take time for you to master it, but this is the first step. The first step is never easy, which is to be expected, but taking it will feel great.

Managers need to be aware of what behavior would benefit from this therapy in order to assist staff with getting help they may need. This topic is covered in many organizational behavior books.

Sometimes employees may experience negative feelings or be cognitive behavior modificationinteracting in trivial office conflict, simply due to miscommunication and their perspective on communication in general.
